Spotlight on our services

Active Wandsworth Awards

Wandsworth Council’s Active Wandsworth Awards celebrated clubs, volunteers and coaches for all their hard work and exceptional achievements in 2019.
Our Move Dance Feel programme was shortlisted in the "Physical Activity Project of the Year” category and Marilyn Harvey, our Qi Gong instructor, was named as one of the volunteers of the year.

Valuing our volunteers

Marilyn's story

Marilyn Harvey is our volunteer teacher for the Qi Gong Class at Paul’s Cancer Support Centre. Marilyn was recently named one of the Volunteers of the Year at the Active Wandsworth Awards.

Marilyn explains what volunteering at Paul’s means to her:
“I’ve been volunteering with Paul’s for more than 5 years and the time has flown by.

I originally started here because I really wanted to do something rewarding for cancer patients after a close friend was diagnosed. Patients get a rough deal with orthodox treatments – these can be so debilitating. Paul’s has such a lovely, nurturing environment and it is a pleasure to work with the students.

Qi Gong can be described as a practice that improves a person’s mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement and breathing. There is such a camaraderie in the group and it is good to see people relax, become more flexible and gain confidence with their bodies. I think people really feel that they are healing and improving.”

Thank you to our local business partners
We are lucky to have the support of LonRes, a local property data company, from 1st April 2020. We are currently updating our fundraising plans in light of the coronavirus pandemic but are very much looking forward to working with LonRes and their network in the coming months.
